Directing a choir can be both exciting and daunting. Many new directors face the challenge of bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application. They often find themselves seeking feedback on programming choices, rehearsal techniques, conducting techniques, and performance preparations, yet feel isolated in their journey.
My mentorship services provide a unique and personalized approach to guiding early career choral directors. By offering expert advice and compassionate support, I empower you to transform your uncertainties into confidence, ensuring you not only succeed but thrive in your conducting roles. You don't have to do it alone!
CHORAL COMPASS
Whether you are directing symphony choruses, college choirs, church choirs, or high school ensembles, I have traversed this path. With over 35 years of conducting ensembles, I've encountered and overcome the myriad challenges unique to each of these roles.
The coaching programs are specifically designed to support you on your choral journey.
I will not be giving you a check list and then wish you luck. We will walk together. We will focus on honing and developing your skills, sparking your creative potential, and engaging in candid discussions about the stress, fears, and imposter syndrome that many of us face as artists. I am a musician who mentors choral directors who feel isolated and uncertain in their abilities to lead and inspire with confidence and connect deeply with their ensembles through my Choral M.A.P. (Mastering Music, Amplifying Artistry, "Perfecting" Performance) Program.
Growing up, everyone knew me as the pianist, but I knew I wanted to be on the podium and so even throughout all my years training as a pianist, I started directing choirs since my teenage years (that’s a long time ago!) and never really stopped!
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of performing as a pianist in Canada and Europe, as well as working and collaborating as a conductor with both professional and amateur ensembles, bringing excellence and expertise to every performance. My journey has taken me from the vibrant city of Toronto, Canada, through Munich Germany, to the US mainland and to the serene shores of Hawaii.
In the past two decades, my work on the Island of Hawaii has provided me with invaluable opportunities to conduct the Oahu Choral Society, Hawaii Symphony, colleges, local churches, and high schools on the island.
These experiences have left a profound impact on my journey in the pursuit of choral artistry.
Beyond the podium, I am an avid traveler, exploring the world with my husband on medical missions. I find joy in cooking, reading, and savoring a good cup of coffee on my lanai. Before each concert, you’ll find me quiet on the beach, and in awe and wonder of God’s creation.
