Meet Dr. Esther S. Yoo
For over four decades, I have worked with choirs as a pianist, conductor, educator, and mentor. I understand the excitement of leading an ensemble - and the uncertainty, responsibility, and self-doubt that can accompany those early years on the podium.
I am especially passionate about helping choir directors navigate the transition from music student to confident musical leader. Music schools gives you a foundation in musicianship and conducting, but leading a choir also means working with people, communicating clearly, making countless decisions and building an ensemble where singers can thrive.
That's why I created Choral Compass. I believe early-career conductors deserve more than occasional workshops or textbooks. They deserve an experienced mentor who will walk alongside them, help them think through challenges, explore possibilities, and grow through the everyday realities of leading a choir.
My goal isn't to create conductors who lead like me. It's to help you discover and develop your own artistic voice—with confidence, clarity, and purpose.

I understand those challenges. I know what it's like to wish for someone who can listen, offer perspective, and help you find your way forward.
